Although the presidential contest continues on, it appears that our City Council election has been decided. Congratulations to Tracy, Dan and Dave – They ran very effective campaigns and were passionate advocates for their message. Please join me in supporting them as they lead us through the challenges confronting Del Mar, and work to support the Community Plan that we all believe is such a critical part of the fabric of our City.
You have heard me say many times that I wanted to join the Council to be a consensus builder – to work toward eliminating the polarization, intransigence, and demonization of those with opposing views that have characterized too many of our public debates in recent years. I am very proud that my campaign did not engage in that type of divisive rhetoric or hyperbole, nor did we spread falsehoods. I am hopeful that, now that this election has been decided, we can come together as a community, truly listen to each other, and successfully navigate the various issues we are facing in a calm, reasonable, fact-based manner. If we focus on supporting each other and our Community Plan, and act toward each other with kindness, civility and empathy, there is nothing that we cannot accomplish.
This was my only foray into electoral politics and, despite the result, it has truly been the time of my life. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know so many of you over the past few months, and I am so humbled by your support of my candidacy. I urge you to remain engaged and informed, so that you can continue to play an important role in Del Mar’s future. That always has been, and I hope always will be, the “Del Mar Way.”
Here’s to Del Mar!
